Alchemists are humans charged with helping Moroi and Dhampir keep their existence discreet.
How to Become an Alchemist[]
Like dhampirs, the Alchemist's "career" is somewhat compulsory and passed down through family. Alchemists' work connections amongst humans can allow them to cover up for moroi and dhampirs; they have "tricks and techniques" that allow them to dispose of strigoi bodies.

Golden Lily Tattoo[]
Alchemists have an elaborate design of flowers and leaves tattooed in gold on their lower left cheeks.These tattoos are made from gold and Moroi blood charmed with earth and water.
Indigo Tattoo[]
Their golden lily tattoo has been seen to be broken. This was found by a moroi, who used it on the ex-Alchemist Marcus Finch. Once the tattoo is broken, the Alchemist is able to use their free will and free thought. In recent history, several to dozens of Alchemists have left the organization due to asking questions or being threatened with re-education. In the case of Marcus Finch, he had his golden tattoo covered with an indigo tattoo.

Their charmed tattoo acts as a reward, allowing them to lead longer lives and stopping them from becoming ill. The charm also prevents them from speaking about the supernatural world in a way that would expose it.
Mentality[]
They believe all vampires, even moroi and dhampirs, are evil "creatures of the night" and try to keep as far away as possible.

Re-Education[]
Re-education is one of the dreaded places within the organization of the Alchemist. If an Alchemist is sent for re-education, they don't come back the same as they were before, according to Sydney. Keith Darnell is currently inside the re-education center for selling vampire blood to the tattoo shop, Nevermore. When sentencing Keith for the possibility of spending more time in the re-education center, it was shown that he was bashing the windows of the interrogation room and screaming for them not to send him back to the center.

Powers and Abilities[]
- Agility: Humans possess agility that is less than that of the Moroi and Dhampir and are not as agile as the Strigoi.
- Daytime Walking: Unlike the Strigoi, humans can walk around during the day.
- Endurance: Humans do not have an advanced musculature that produces fewer fatigue toxins during physical activity and thus tire faster than Dhampir. Humans are less resilient than Dhampirs.
- Memory: Humans have great memory when it has been trained.
- Metabolism: Humans have a metabolism that differs from person to person. Some humans have faster metabolisms, which helps them be resistant to diseases. Alchemists who have a charmed tattoo have a better metabolism than those who do not.
- Night Vision: Humans are able to see in the dark at night to some extent.
- Senses: A human's five senses are not greatly heightened but can be trained to a certain extent.
- Strength: Humans are not exceptionally strong unless they train themselves to be.
Weaknesses[]
- Mortality: Alchemists without a charmed tattoo weaken with age, disease, and exsanguination. However, if they have the tattoo, they live longer.
- Physical Weakness: Humans aren't very strong physically and are absolutely no match for Strigoi. Compared to Dhampirs, humans are generally physically weaker and less nimble.
