Ian Jansen is an Alchemist, about 18 years old.
Biography[]
He had a crush on Sydney Sage. He had seen the Moroi who tried to kill Vasilisa Dragomir. When Sydney asked, he told Rose that he had seen a Moroi woman with him at their headquarters. It was because of his description that Rose came to know who was the killer of the Queen.
Sydney convinced Ian to give her a tour of the Alchemist library so that she could break into the files and find out if the Alchemists were linked to the Warriors of Light.

He goes to Mikhail and Sonya's wedding. He is greeted by Colleen, who sat him, Donna Stanton, and Sydney Sage at their reserved seats for the wedding.

At the end of Silver Shadows, Ian appears with Jared and Zoe Sage at Moroi Court in an attempt to get Sydney back into re-education. It is seen that his feelings for Sydney have now shifted to Zoe, and that he is disgusted by Sydney's marriage to Adrian Ivashkov, a Moroi.

Powers[]
- Agility: Humans possess agility that is less than that of the Moroi, Dhampir, and Strigoi.
- Daytime Walking: Unlike the Strigoi, humans can walk around during the day.
- Endurance: Humans do not have an advanced musculature that produces fewer fatigue toxins during physical activity and thus tire faster than Dhampir. Humans are less resilient than Dhampirs.
- Fertility: Humans are easily one of the most fecund species in the series, outnumbering every other species by a considerable margin.
- Memory: Humans have great memory when it has been trained.
- Metabolism: Humans have a metabolism that differs from person to person. Some humans have faster metabolisms, which helps them be resistant to diseases. This metabolism is not as advanced as that of a Dhampir. Alchemists who have a charmed tattoo have a better metabolism than those who do not.
- Night Vision: Humans are able to see in the dark at night to some extent.
- Senses: A human's five senses are not greatly heightened but can be trained to a certain extent.
- Strength: Humans are not exceptionally strong unless they train themselves to be.
- Technology: One of two areas that humans excel at over any other known species is technology, which is capable of even defeating Strigoi.

- Mortality: Alchemists without a charmed tattoo weaken with age, disease, and exsanguination. However, if they have the tattoo, they live longer.
- Physical Weakness: Humans aren't very strong physically and are absolutely no match for Strigoi. Compared to Dhampirs, humans are generally physically weaker and less nimble.
- Attraction: Humans are the primary food source for both Moroi and Strigoi. Moroi also reproduce with humans to form Dhampirs.
