Description[]
Malachi tells stories about how he lost his eye while wearing an eyepatch. His story changes, but one version says that he lost an eye while using nunchucks to fight a moose. How exactly he lost his eye is still a mystery. In The Indigo Spell, his eyepatch is on a different eye, indicating that he probably never even lost his eye.

The Indigo Spell[]
In The Indigo Spell, Sydney gets a gun from him. He also tells Sydney to not let love go, as he regrets letting go of Silver Tooth Sally.
The Fiery Heart[]
As of The Fiery Heart, he is dating Jaclyn Terwilliger, Sydney's witch mentor. He mentions that he once dated a woman named Toctulla, an Aztec princess, whose name he had tattooed on his thigh. He left her because he was a free bird and she was not. He got his name tattoo changed to "Tactful".

Powers[]
- Agility: Humans possess agility that is less than that of the Moroi, Dhampir, and Strigoi.
- Daytime Walking: Unlike the Strigoi, humans can walk around during the day.
- Endurance: Humans do not have an advanced musculature that produces fewer fatigue toxins during physical activity and thus tire faster than Dhampir. Humans are less resilient than Dhampirs.
- Fertility: Humans are easily one of the most fecund species in the series, outnumbering every other species by a considerable margin.
- Memory: Humans have great memory when it has been trained.
- Metabolism: Humans have a metabolism that differs from person to person. Some humans have faster metabolisms, which helps them be resistant to diseases. This metabolism is not as advanced as that of a Dhampir.
- Night Vision: Humans are able to see in the dark at night to some extent.
- Senses: A human's five senses are not greatly heightened but can be trained to a certain extent.
- Strength: Humans are not exceptionally strong unless they train themselves to be.
- Technology: One of two areas that humans excel at over any other known species is technology, which is capable of even defeating Strigoi.

- Mortality: Humans weaken with age, disease, and exsanguination.
- Physical Weakness: Humans aren't very strong physically and are absolutely no match for Strigoi. Compared to Dhampirs, humans are generally physically weaker and less nimble.
- Attraction: Humans are the primary food source for both Moroi and Strigoi. Moroi also reproduce with humans to form Dhampirs.
